Animal Facilities
Animal Facilities include a variety of businesses related to the animal industry. The list includes: kennels, equestrian boarding and riding facilities; veterinarian offices; pet stores; breeders; groomers; shelters; humane societies; community dog parks and; zoological attractions. Note: Confined Animal Feeding Operations, such as large scale poultry ranches, fall under a specific series of requirements. Contact the Regional Water Quality Control Board for specific requirements for confined animal feeding operations (CAFO). Animal facilities activities that may generate pollutants include animal waste management, outdoor landscaping, trash management, animal food management and pesticide and herbicide management. Any of these activities may be engaged by various animal facilities. Appropriate Best Management Practices must be implemented to prevent pollutants from entering the storm drain system.
