Property Management - Home Owners Associations (HOA)
Property managers and home owner associations are paid by residents or businesses to care for buildings and common areas. They may be in charge of building repairs, landscaping, enforcing community rules, and handling legal and safety issues. Often times they are associated with housing communities, office parks, and retail centers (shopping centers, strip malls, etc.). Property managers and HOAs engage in various activities that have the potential to generate pollutants. They may perform these activities with their own employees or by hiring vendors. They are often responsible for keeping common areas such as sidewalks, parking lots, or courtyards clean and free of litter. They clean sewer lines, paint buildings, power wash roofs and siding, and manage any public landscaping. Landscaping activities may consist of maintaining irrigation systems, controlling erosion, and applying fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides. Whether through their own workforce or through vendors – Best Management Practices must be implemented to prevent pollutants from entering the storm drain system.
